TED’s Chris Anderson’s Video Featured in YouTube’s “Meet the Flood Victims of Pakistan”

TED Curator, Chris Anderson, recently created a video documenting some of the faces of people affected by the terrible flooding in Pakistan. With permission from Peter Gabriel, Chris uses the “Never Give Up” song for the video soundtrack and includes amazing images by photographer Jacqueline Novogratz. Chris’s video is the first in the YouTube series “Meet the Flood Victims of Pakistan”.

Is TED the New Ivy League University?

FastCompany recently published an article about the amazing influence TED is having on people who want to learn.  Gathering the greatest minds from around the world as ‘Faculty’ and sharing the Talks  freely online has converted the small, elite conference to something WAY beyond that.  TED has created a human network of like-minded people who have and want to share great ideas.  TED’s web presence is a key component to the popularity of the movement and FastCompany notes that by leveraging technology rather than physical infrastructure, it can do so rapidly and much more affordably. TED content has been translated to 77 languages so far thanks to its Open Translation project and it has a potential reach to 2.2 billion people.  So, if TED’s web strategy is so successful, can traditional universities take notes from this play book and bring a new model to higher education?

Cool New Way to View TED Talks

Chris Anderson, via Twitter, highlighted the bestiario.org website, which offers an interesting visual navigational interface for exploring TED Talks.  Organized in a spherical presentation, the site groups talks around the tags associated with each talk.   I really like the nav tab, which allows you to browse talks by specific tags.  To watch the video, you can click on the link to the video in the navigation menu, which takes you to directly to the TED video on TED.com.

Ethan Zuckerman on Global Voices and the Web

Ethan Zuckerman is one of those rare geniuses who spends his time trying to change the world.  In addition to working as a researcher at the Berkman Center for Internet and Society at Harvard University, Ethan has started several high-profile online initiatives to study and share news and information from across the globe.  In his recent TED Talk, Ethan shows how most of the News in the U.S. is about the U.S., with the trend showing decreasing global news over the past few decades.  This is astonishing considering that social media has exploded across the globe.  Check out Global Voices, which Ethan co-founded to share blogger news from around the world.
