Announcing TEDxTampaBayChange 2012

The Big Picture

TEDxChange is happening Thursday, April 5, 2012 and TEDxTampaBayChange, an official satellite TEDxChange event, will be viewing a live stream of the entire 90 minute event. Following the live stream, we’ll enjoy a catered lunch, live presenters, and free time to engage with presenters.

TEDxChange 2012 is a TEDx event co-organized by the Bill & Melinda Gates

Foundation and TED. Convened by Melinda French Gates and hosted by Chris

Anderson, TEDxChange will focus on issues surrounding global health and

development. TEDxChange type events are TEDx events hosted around the live

webcast of TEDxChange, and also feature local speakers. Our event is called

TEDxTampaBayChange, and is one of many TEDx events happening around the

globe on April 5th that will expand on the ideas brought up at TEDxChange 2010.

TEDxTampaBaySalon February Highlights

Quite a diverse range of opinions emerged as TEDxTampaBaySalon attendees discussed Helen Fisher’s The Brain in Love.  Are we controlled by our biology or does our prefrontal cortex help us resist primal urges? Thanks to the behavioral and neurology experts in attendance with their scientific insights into love, everyone learned a bit about the brain, behavior, and current theories about how individuals make choices. The Benjamin Zander talk on music and passion gave everyone the opportunity, classical music fan or not, the opportunity to internalize Chopin for a few minutes — very powerful!

It is always amazing to start a conversation around TEDTalks with a group of TED fans. The conversation goes in unexpected directions when we share diverse opinions. The January TEDxTampaBaySalon was no exception. John Dengler Rocks TEDxTampaBaySalon December

Tre Amici was standing room only as people from around Tampa Bay and beyond packed into the hip coffee shop in Ybor City to witness Jon Dengler tell his amazing story of sharing and generosity in an age of excess and materialism. Jon’s passionate talk reminded us that it is people, and not “stuff”, that has real value. Through intentional living, Jon and his community live together without air conditioning and other comforts to reduce their carbon footprint.  Best of all, Jon’s stories started halfway across the world, transplanted themselves here and now they are sprouting here in Tampa. Thanks, Jon.
